What’s the event raising money for?

Over this week approximately 25 zoos and wildlife parks from around Australia and New Zealand will hold ten pin bowling and lawn bowling events to raise money for Numbat conservation and to assist with the running of the Society. The previous fundraising events have seen us raise over $35,000 that was donated to projects involved in the conservation of the Greater Bilby, Asian Rhinos, Southern Cassowary, Philippine Crocodiles, New Zealand Kea and Southern Corroboree Frogs.

Primarily, any money raised will go towards the DNA analysis of predator scats, saliva and hair remnants found on radio-collars and/or carcass remains. Predator control is a high priority, and gathering DNA data will be pivotal in creating the most effective control regimes for management of Numbat habitat, which they share with other threatened marsupials.

Additional funds could be used to aid community awareness projects, including, but not limited to, school education packs and presentations, signage, merchandise and other promotional material.

The next Project Numbat meeting will be held on Tuesday 18 October at 5 pm in the Perth Zoo conference centre.

Whiteman Park is celebrating its silver jubilee on Sunday 16 October with a huge party – and Project Numbat is going to be there.

Spanning the whole Village, from Revolutions to the Tractor Museum, there will be rides, market stalls, displays, entertainment, plus loads of activities for the whole family.

The 96fm Street Team will be in attendance and there will be plenty of prizes to give away! Enjoy the 25th Anniversary Specials on offer, from 1994 admission prices at the Motor Museum, to spot prizes at the Village Cafe. This is set to be a fabulously fun day for all involved.

Project Numbat will be participating in the annual Kings Park Quiz on Legs festival. This is one of the biggest environmental education events of the year. Involving more than 20 of Perth’s leading environmental education organisations, theatre, Aboriginal heritage, native animals, art and music this colourful event uses interactive activities to help student recognise the interdependence of living things and promotes the importance of a sustainable future for all.

Project Numbat will be running a special Numbat radio-tracking activity.

The Project Numbat Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 20 September at 6:30pm in the Perth Zoo Theatre. The AGM will include voting on some changes to the constitution.

At the AGM, all committee places become vacant so if you’re keen to help move Project Numbat forward, consider joining us. Positions available include chairperson, vice-chairperson, treasurer, secretary and nine general committee positions.
