Volunteer with Project Numbat
Project Numbat couldn’t function without its volunteers, whether they are committee members, fundraisers or presenters. We’re always keen to hear from people who would like to lend a helping hand to our activities, whether it involves one-off assistance or a longer term position on the committee.
At the moment, we’re particularly keen to have people assist us with attending weekend markets in the Perth metropolitan area. We construct our stall, talk to people about Numbats and sell great Numbat merchandise! As a newbie you will always be paired with an experienced volunteer.
Field Work Volunteers
Occasionally we have opportunities for field work. These include volunteering to help with dig surveys, drive surveys to spot numbats, and camera trapping.
Currently, we are involved in a project to help monitor numbat habitat through the use of camera traps. This provides us with invaluable information, but also requires upkeep. Every 3 months, these traps have to be serviced, which includes checking the batteries and replacing the SD cards which capture the footage. We would love some volunteers to come along and help us with this maintenance. It will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about the numbat, visit their natural habitat, and gain first hand experience in the projects we run.
We are also presently investigating a project to improve and maintain Numbat habitat at Dryandra Woodland that will involve the hand removal of weeds.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact us at: info@numbat.org.au. We always aim to have volunteer input in the process too, and would like to hear about any ideas you have. We do ask that our volunteers become members of Project Numbat, and you can find out more about our memberships here. This helps support our current and future projects, and keeps you up to date with all of our efforts!
